Dairy
At Ben & Jerry’s, we’ve always believed that love can lead to a long-term relationship. And that's how it happened to us. Our desire to find the freshest milk and cream for our ice cream way back in our early days led us to the St. Albans Cooperative Creamery in Vermont. And for over 20 years, the 500-plus family farmers of the Co-op (and their bovine beauts) have been our partners and primary suppliers of cream and condensed milk. The Co-op is also an integral partner in the Caring Dairy Program, a unique program that helps farmers move toward more sustainable practices on the farm. |

| In addition to providing a market for milk and cream from the co-op, we pay a premium for the farmers’ pledge not to treat cows with Recombinant Bovine Growth Hormone (rBGH), a synthetic hormone that increases cows’ milk production. While rBGH is in common use, we think it is a step in the wrong direction toward a synthetic, chemically-intensive, food supply. | |
